It started with one dog we couldn't find a groomer for.

Maison Fluff has always been exactly what its name says.

It started at home. Our home.

When Samuel and Danielle adopted Yankee, they went looking for a groomer in Montréal — someone nearby, who isn’t rushing and who wouldn't keep Yankee in a cage between steps. They didn't find one, so they took it upon themselves and got a grooming certificate.

Friends came first. Then friends of friends, and the word spread out. When the situation changed and Samuel continued on his own, the dogs followed him to his parents' house. Same setup, same rules- no cage, no restraint loop, just a home.

That was the founding principle and it never changed. The new space opening in June 2026 is built around the same idea: walk in like you're visiting a friend or family member- not like you're being processed.

What "cage-free" actually means.

In most salons, a dog spends a significant portion of their appointment waiting in a cage — before the bath, after the bath, and while the groomer works on another dog.

We decided against that from the very beginning. Every dog at Maison Fluff is in active care from the moment they arrive.

No cage waiting.

What "no restraints" actually means.

Most groomers use a restraint loop on the table — a noose-style attachment that limits the dog's movement and keeps them from stepping off.

It's standard practice but we chose against it because we found it can add additional stress to the dog which can lead to aggressiveness.

Instead, dogs at Maison Fluff are free to move during their session which requires more patience and a different technique on our side.

We've learned more about dogs while being “free” than any restraint ever taught us.

How a session at Maison Fluff actually works.

The space. The method. The people.

The space.

The salon is designed to look and feel like the inside of a home. Not a clinical space, not a pet-industry aesthetic.

Furniture, natural light, and a layout that doesn't scream"grooming salon" to a dog the moment they walk in.

Dogs read environments, so we designed a space that looks like somewhere they've been before — a living room, a kitchen, a familiar interior.

That's the whole point of the name- Maison meaning Home.

Every dog at Maison Fluff has one groomer for the entire session who is fully present from start to finish.

After a few visits, the groomer will actually know your dog and not just their file.

One dedicated groomer per dog.

The new space has two grooming stations and naturally clients will be here at the same time.

However, the layout of the salon is designed so the dogs never cross paths that way your dog will not be over stimulated or stressed by another dog.

Each dog will still have their dedicated groomer for the full session. We’ve just added extra stations, but our method stayed the same.

Two stations. Same method.

For dogs with difficult histories.

Some dogs have been groomed in ways that left marks.

Cage stress, restraint, rushed handling and too much noise accumulate over time and unfortunately we can't undo them in one session.

However, what we can offer is a different environment: no cage, no restraints, and one groomer who isn't watching the clock.

Some dogs need two or three visits before they're fully comfortable here. That's normal and we have the time.

Finishing products used at Maison Fluff — including paw care and fragrance — are developed by Samuel under his brand Snout & Co. Hypoallergenic, alcohol-free, pH-balanced for dogs.

Founder · Professional Groomer

He started grooming because he couldn't find a groomer he'd trust with his own dog.

He has worked with over 2,000 dogs across four years — in living rooms, in his parents' 2nd bathroom, and now in a space built for exactly this purpose.

He also develops the finishing products used in every session under his sister brand, Snout & Co.

For the June 2026 opening, Samuel is joined by a new member of the team.

Two groomers. Two stations. Still a home.
